Calling all yarn adventurers and those in search of soulful stash and place-based yarns! We have a very special and limited supply of this beautiful Light DK yarn from Black Isle Yarns.

Balblair DK is a very special blend of Gotland and Bluefaced Leicester wool made from only fleeces from the Black Isle!

The Gotland fleeces are a range of grays and the BFL are white which results in a beautiful heathered natural gray in the spun yarn. Balblair DK has a lot of texture and character, but it is soft and many people find it comfortable next to skin.

Finished items made in Balblair DK have a slight drape. This beautiful yarn should also be hardwearing and warm, well suited to sweaters, accessories and shawls. Balblair has three plies and is worsted spun in the Scottish Borders by The Border Mill.

Black Isle Yarns are gently and minimally processed from real animals who enjoy an outdoor life ( in beautiful surroundings, lucky beasts!) - consequently you may find the odd bit of vegetation in your yarn. These are easy to remove as you knit and, if you're lucky enough to find some, we hope it will remind you of the special animals who have grown your yarn!

Please remember that every effort is taken to represent the true colors of the yarn and that monitor settings will vary.

Balblair

This is a beautiful yarn! It feels much softer when knitting it than when on the skein. I do find it splits easily so I am knitting a bit more slowly, but this allows me to really enjoy the feel of this yarn. I love the specialness of this limited yarn.

Rustic and irregular

This yarn is incredibly soft. I am using it as a background for a mosaic cardigan which is a good thing because there are a substantial number of segments where the yarn is very irregularly spun and super rough in texture. This happens to be OK for the look of my sweater, but anyone looking for a smooth finish will be frustrated. It will feel wonderful wearing it!
