Petra of Black Elephant operates her dye studio in Sheffield in the north of England. She is originally from Slovakia and learned to knit from her grandma at the age of 11 however it wasn't until she moved to England that knitting really hooked her and then she started her own yarn company hand-dyeing yarns.
After looking for meanings of the elephant she found out that to the Hindu way of thought, the elephant is found in the form of Ganesha who is the god of luck and is a blessing upon all new projects. Very fitting indeed!
Black Elephant sources her yarn in South America and The Woolly Thistle is delighted to be working with Petra who dyes her yarn in the UK.
